Its a good thing this one isn’t all that deadly. We can get some practice in for when it is. We should be taking advantage of this situation to develop the systems, incentives, and methods necessary in order to combat some future outbreak that is way deadlier than this one.
There are some great lessons to be learned so far: the need for stockpiles of masks; the need for rapid response at the first sign of an outbreak; and that there are people who will break quarantines in the most horrifically irresponsible ways imaginable.
Now what we need to do is make examples of these people so that when the real threat hits everyone knows that if you break quarantine – whether or not you are actually sick – the state will come down on you like the hand of god.
